Thanks, Reece. Not exactly. Two transit tracks, one freight track and one tunnel tube solely for two pipes of the pipeline. See 2nd to last image in the article and the right tube in the last image.

This was really good, and the pipeline thing is hilarious. Reading this I was wondering whether the thing you suggest at the end (island platform with two LR tracks adjacent and a fourth tube for freight) would work. I assumed this idea was thrown out because they demanded 2 tracks for freight - the truth is crazy!

Govt bureaucrats in the U.S. look for any reason to hike the cost of projects. With both the East New York and All Faiths Cemetery tunnel issues, they have chosen the most expensive options with the fewest benefits. :-( Seen it many times.

All four tracks need to be utilized for both freight and commuter rail. The pipeline needs to be removed for safety reasons. Brooklyn needs a new Broadway Junction NOW!
