Comments About the Interborough Express Proposal - 3
September 2022 Comments, including sharing a track in the Metropolitan Avenue Tunnel
My previous two posts, this post and one that will follow are primarily reference sources for future discussions of the proposed Interborough Express (IBX) transit line, connecting underserved areas of Brooklyn and Queens in New York City.
The MTA revealed at a virtual town hall in September 2022 that it was considering selection of a Light Rail Transit mode for the IBX line. The reason was that the MTA and its consultants considered an existing tunnel too narrow to accommodate both transit and freight tracks. Light Rail Vehicles would be able to run on the streets of Middle Village in Queens, to avoid using the tunnel. (A link to the MTA’s town hall video is on this page: https://new.mta.info/press-release/mta-hold-second-virtual-public-town-hall-meeting-interborough-express).
Attached below is my “Comments on the IBX Tunnel at Metropolitan Avenue,” which I sent to the MTA in September 2022.
More in the next post.
